Summary of Maintenance Updates
Update Intusoft's ICAP/4 software products -- from 8.x.10 Build 1843 to the new 8.x.10 Build 1993.
To access this latest software revision for your product, you must have purchased maintenance. Enter your Product Serial Number exactly as shown and click "Go" to retrieve the software update. If you have any problems send an email to our tech support: techsupport@intusoft.com Please enter the Product Serial Number exactly as shown on the Installation letter. Use a single space between number groups. If you have multiple numbers enter the one whose support page you want to go to.hdd32.zip-(1.35MB
modified 03/25/2002) Signed for Windows XP. Graphical User Interface, Autoconfigures,
Shows existing driver version and version to be installed, recommended for most
users.
hinstall.zip-(1.17MB,
modified 03/25/2002) Signed for Windows XP. Command line Interface, Customizable,
Only use if you need to change settings.
Example: If you are getting an error message saying that the hasp key is not
connected and it is physically connected then the most likely problem is a timing
out error. Unzip the hinstall.exe program to the C drive. Use Windows start
-> run, and in the command line type"C:\hinstall.exe /i /portdelay=300"
where "/i" installs the hasp driver and "/portdelay=300"
increases the time the program will use to check for the serial number.
Dell offers several modes of operation on its parallel port. Dell defaults it to EPP, change the mode to AT mode which is the standard IEEE configuration for parallel port.
Only do the following if you receive an error message of ICAPSdir not found when you open ICAP/4 windows or try to simulate a schematic. Also this is only for computers with win 95/98/ME. The installation will place "set ICAPSdir=c:\spice8"(default) at the end of the autoexec.bat file, and for some reason it will not be read in when the computer boots up. You need to move the ICAPSdir line from the last line to the second (2) line from the top in autoexec.bat file.
<Autoexec.bat>
Move set ICAPSdir line as the following:
loadhigh c:\windows\COMMAND\nlsfunc.exe c:\windows\country.sys
set ICAPSdir=c:\spice8
SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AUTODE~1
We get occasional requests
to have more than one version of ICAP/4 available on the same machine. This
usually comes with respect to running new product demos when you already have
another version installed. Several of the ICAP/4 components use the system registry.
When they are launched, the operating system looks in the registry to see where
they are located. You get truly strange results if you install a new ICAP/4
program and try to run the older one. Thats because the new components
will run and relative folder path associations will fail. To switch back and
forth, you need to change the registry entries and change the ICAPSdir environment
variable. Heres a batch file that solves the problem. The trick is to
run from an MSDOS or system shell. Any program launched from the shell will
inherit environment variables. So the trick is to set ICAPSdir = "your
icaps directory" using a batch file. Then in subsequent lines you use regedit
to apply the appropriate .reg files. Next run snet5.exe and you have it made.
When you exit the DOS shell, the environment variables will revert. If you change
the registry back on the way out, then all you need is a single batch file to
invoke an alternate copy of ICAP/4.
Contents of ICAP4demo.bat
Rem Location of ICAP/4 demo
set icapsdir=c:\spice8d
set is@@@=c:\spice8d\sn
Rem Location of ICAP4demo.reg registry file.
call regedit.exe c:\spice8d\ICAP4demo.reg
echo off
pause
call c:\spice8d\sn\snet5.exe
rem when spicenet quits, put the registry back
pause
call regedit.exe c:\spice8d\ICAP4.reg
We want to set the full
version, or network version to be the default.
After you install a full or network version of icaps, record the environmental
variables.
For Windows NT 4.0/2000-Right click on My Computer icon, select Properties,
select Environment Tab and take note of the User variable -- >>
ICAPSdir = value for standalone, and ICAPSdir=value, and IS@@@ = value
for network.
For Windows 95/98/ME-View autoexec.bat using Start, Run, Sysedit (System
Configuration Editor) and take note of the User variable -- >>
ICAPSdir = value for standalone, and ICAPSdir=value, and IS@@@ = value
for network.
Now install the demo, all the environmental variables will be changed to work
for the demo version only. You will want to change the environmental variables
back to the settings for the full or network version. Remember that Windows
95/98/ME users who modify autoexec.bat must reboot the computer to read in the
changes.
Place ICAP4demo.reg, ICAP4.reg, and ICAP4demo.bat file in the icaps demo folder, which is c:\spice8d\ by default. The .bat file specifies which reg file to run and where the .reg file is stored. If you installed any version of ICAPS to a non-default folder then you must edit the registry file by selecting the file, press the right mouse button, select Edit. Modify the path for each line. Do the same for the .bat file.

Note
for Dual Processor Users: If
you install ICAP/4 Windows on a Windows NT dual processor machine, you must
do the following before proceeding with installation: During CD autoplay, when
the ICAP setup page appears, go to Windows NT Task Manager and select the Processes
tab. Look for a program named _INS0576._MP in the list. Select it and right
click. Choose Set Affinity and disable one CPU. Afterward, return to setup and
proceed to install the ICAP program.
Microsoft Office Problem: There is a problem with
Microsoft Office Release SR1. It creates problems for the Excel macro used in
the Magnetics Designer Database MTL.XLS file. You should avoid SR1. Intusoft
technical support is working on a fix to the problem. SR1 does not cause any
operational problems for Magnetics Designer. It is only a problem if you want
to add to or modify the core database MTL.XLS file.
